A short walk in New Zealand - Queen Charlotte Track
Were going to make a foray across the Tasman to
explore some of New Zealands South Island for 10
days including five days on the Queen Charlotte Track.
Expect fantastic scenery, invigorating walks, quality
accommodation, a world famous train trip and good company!
This is a leisurely program, apart from one days
lengthy 23 km walk, that will appeal to those of us who
enjoy a good walk through pristine wilderness without
compromising on comforts! Our small group touring program
is limited to just eight guests.
After many years of accompanying walkers though the
French Pyrenees, the remote trails of northern Vietnam
and Laos, amongst other destinations, new horizons beckon.
Together with Active Travel, who helped
developed this fabulous little itinerary, Ive
selected one of the most beautiful walks in New Zealand
the Queen Charlotte Track to walk and
enjoy with a small group of guests in early February,
2008. We all tend to overindulge through the festive
season, so I thought a good walk might be just the ticket
early in the new year. However, our tour program will
be far more than just a Short Walk in New Zealand
as the name suggests. We commence with a glorious scenic
flight from Wellington, over the Cook Straight and the
inlets, coves and islands that make up the Marlborough
Sounds. Theres also a focus on the fabulous wine
of the Marlborough region - the Sauvignon Blancs are
justifiably world famous. There is delicious local cuisine,
including excellent seafood, quality accommodation throughout
and we have thrown in some terrific sightseeing as well.
At the end of our four day walk (with a rest day in
the middle), we will take a tour of the vineyards, before
heading to the rugged west coast of the South Island.
As if this wasnt a dazzling tour program already,
well enjoy what many rail buffs the world over
consider to be one of the greatest one-day rail trips
on earth, the famous TranzAlpine, from Greymouth to
Christchurch, over the spectacular Southern Alps. I
cant wait to experience it! Its hard to
believe we can fit so many highlights into just 10 days.
If time is not the issue, by all means extend your stay
at the end of the program and discover more of the clean,
green magic of New Zealand.
