Tanzania Trails & Zanzibar
This fabulous adventure offers a very different take on
the traditional 'safari' to Tanzania. We visit the world
famous Serengeti National Park, The Ngorongoro Crater
both of which are world famous for wildlife, then the
Masai homelands, and as icing on the cake we visit Zanzibar,
the exotic spice island with its ancient Moorish influences,
lovely old buildings and glorious beaches.
Starting the tour in Arusha, we stay at a charming lodge
and head out the following day, in 4WD vehicles, to explore
the celebrated Lake Manyara. We enjoy a game drive here
and continue into the Ngorongoro highlands to another
lovely lodge facing the Oldeani volcano.
Our next destination is the Serengeti, where we spend
two nights at a luxury mobile tented camp. We explore
the extensive grasslands on morning and afternoon game
drives before heading back to the magnificent Ngorongoro
Crater for another day of game-viewing.
From Ngorongoro we make our way into the traditional Masai
homelands and the next three days are spent hiking along
cattle trails and through local villages. Donkeys carry
our gear and we sleep under canvas in simple dome tents.
We enjoy a wide variety of scenery, visiting the ancient
Empakai Crater and descending into the plains surrounding
Lake Natron - where our final night is spent at a wonderful
luxury tented camp.
Returning to Arusha we fly south to the exotic island
of Zanzibar, with its ancient Moorish influences and long
history of spice cultivation. We'll be staying at a lovely
old property located right on the beach in the heart of
Stone Town. We enjoy a guided walking tour of the old
town and there's a full day at leisure - or we can take
an optional tour of some nearby spice plantations. Our
trip ends with a flight to Dar Es Salaam.
